USA Dance is a national nonprofit organization whose chapters create dance opportunities for local citizens by organizing affordable social dances, dance lessons, and workshops as well as offering scholarships for students of dance. USA Dance is an affiliate member of the United States Olympic Committee, the International DanceSport Federation, and the United States Congress as the National Governing Body of DanceSport in the United States
Chapter members present dance demonstrations in nursing homes, retirement homes, hospitals, schools, shopping malls, and other public places, and strive to educate the public regarding the health and social benefits of ballroom dancing. The goal of each chapter is to serve as the leader and focal point for ballroom dance activities in the community.
One-third of the proceeds generated from the 2009 and 2010 Dancing with the Rogue Valley Stars fundraiser went into the scholarship fund which our local chapter started in 2008 with the first donation of $200. Dance instructors can submit requests for these funds for students who qualify. The scholarship committee reviews each application and if the student meets the criteria s/he is awarded a scholarship. To date, 44 scholarship certificates have been redeemed for 25 different dance students and awarding $5226 in scholarships.
